JOB TITLE: Senior Financial Analyst – Staff Bargaining Unit

DEPARTMENT: Finance

POSITION STATUS: 2 positions available – 1 full-time permanent, 1 full-time 1-year contract

LOCATION: Sault Ste. Married

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Director, Financial Services

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Student assistants (if applicable)

MAIN DUTIES :

The Senior Financial Analyst position reports to the Director of Financial Services and is responsible for performing duties related to Algoma University’s financial reporting and analysis. This data is essential for the University’s management team to make decisions about University operations.

A- Financial Reporting (40%)
B- Financial analysis, budgeting and forecasting (50%)
C- Other administrative tasks (10%)

A- Financial reporting

– Reconciliation of accounts, preparation of month-end and quarterly entries
– Reconciliation of the various items of the financial statements
– Compile monthly financial statements and working papers
– Tax returns including quarterly GST/HST returns, annual tax returns including T4A and T4A-NR, etc.
-Create ad hoc analyzes and reports to provide recommendations to improve performance and provide operational insights
-Assisting with the year’s external audit, including preparation of financial statements and disclosure notes, supporting working papers and variance analysis
-Reporting for different donors
-Consolidation of subsidiaries
-Various Key Performance Indicator (KPI) reports
-Other ministry report as needed

B- Financial analysis, budgeting and forecasting

– Analyze monthly performance against budget and make forecasts
– Perform detailed financial and operational analysis and historical and forecast trend reports to interpret financial results and derive insights
-Assist with the budget process, including meetings with departments, assess multi-year trends, analyze new budget needs
-Forecast based on current year trends and planned deviations from budget.

C- Other administrative tasks

-Analyze current processes and develop improvements to create efficiencies
-Preparation and analysis of various analytical accounting models such as the responsibility-centered management model
-Complete financial data required for access to information requests
-Collaborate and engage with Algoma’s leadership team and external community partners
-Commitment to and understanding of Algoma University’s special mission, values ​​and the Seven Grandfather Teachings, incorporating these values ​​into the work, policies and procedures of the role
-Other related tasks can be assigned as needed

LABOR CONDITIONS:

Physical effort required Minimal: long periods of sitting and typing.

Considerable sensory attention: work frequently requires focusing on a variety of sensory inputs for a long period requiring diligence and attention

Mental Stress Considerable work activities are performed in an environment with frequent exposure to mental pressure conditions where mental stress would be noticeable (i.e. normal deadlines, repetitive work, etc.).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

-Undergraduate degree in business or finance required
4-5 years of direct accounting or finance experience required
– Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation required
-Extensive knowledge of Canadian accounting standards for not-for-profit organizations
-Exceptional analytical and information-seeking abilities that contribute to effective decision-making and strategic planning
– Extensive experience in the use of accounting systems, including student information systems or a similar system
– Ability to work under tight deadlines
– Autonomous, courageous and highly motivated with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
-Excellent use of technology for collaboration; strong computer skills, including Microsoft applications; Favorite G Suite
– Must be committed to understanding the AU Special Mission and the teachings of the Seven Grandfathers
