Chicago Teachers CIO to Receive Women Investment Professionals Award

Angela Miller-May, Chief Investment Officer of $11 Billion Chicago Public School Teachers Retirement and Retirement Fundwill receive the Distinguished Woman Investment Professional of the Year award from Women Investment Professionals at its annual Trailblazers event, which will be held virtually on October 22.

The non-profit organization, established in 1996, annually awards the award to a prominent individual for their achievements and contributions to the institutional investment industry.

Ms Miller-May joined the Chicago Teachers’ Pension Fund in 2010 and served as chief investment officer until becoming CIO in 2017.

“Angela is an active member of WIP and a trailblazer who goes above and beyond to change the investment management industry,” said Susan Small, president of Chicago-based WIP, in a press release. “She is a leading voice when it comes to promoting diversity and inclusion in our investment community.”

Ms Miller-May said in an email that she was proud and honored to be the latest recipient of WIP’s annual award.

“I have attended the annual WIP Pioneers Dinner every year for the past seven years, and have sat in the audience and listened to award winners and speakers talk about their career paths, the challenges they have faced. faced and the impossibilities they overcame,” said Miller-May.

“I took every piece of advice I was privileged to hear to heart, and the wise wisdom has served to guide and sustain me through my own professional journey,” she said. “I want to be that relay for other women. My goal is to be an advocate for positive change in the investment industry and to make it a more inclusive and diverse industry for the good of us all. “

Ms. Miller-May is also a member of the National Association of Securities Professionals, the African Institutional Investors Advisory Council and the advisory faculty of the CIO Summit of the National Conference on Public Employees Retirement Systems.

She earned her MBA in Accounting from DePaul University and her BA in Economics from Northwestern University.

In addition to presenting the award from Ms. Miller-May, the keynote speaker for the annual Trailblazer virtual event will be Mellody Hobson, Co-CEO and President of Ariel Investments.
